WHAT IS THE REP PROGRAM?

The Brisbane Capitals is the representative program of Brisbane Basketball Inc. (BBI) and form an important part of the Brisbane Capitals Performance Program. Coaches play a key leadership role in striving to growth the character and performance of the Capitals community in pursuit of the next championship in a competitive representative competition environment.

As part of the Performance Program, the successful candidates will be required to work closely with the Performance Program Manager and fellow representative coaches in careful planning and guidance of the learning and development of players in a fun, inclusive and challenging representative team environment.

While the Capitals seek significant coaching experience at key learning and performance levels, we have coaching opportunities for coaches with varied years of experience, and also for those aspiring coaches who are looking to crack into their first representative coaching opportunity.

ADDITIONAL APPLICANT CONSIDERATIONS

  • BBI aims to match the experience, abilities, skills, and knowledge of each coach with the player’s needs with consideration of the coaching context.
  • Every care is taken to avoid deploying coaches who might mistakenly wish to be associated with players in a context for which their skills, knowledge and competence are not suited (i.e., a performance coach who wants to work with athletes in a participation context but does not understand the contextual difference between the two coaching contexts).
  • As there are only 10 Performance Coach Positions available in the Brisbane Capitals Performance Program (NBL1, QSL, QSL-Youth, U18 Gold & U16 Gold) where possible BBI applies a deployment strategy to prevent coaches being appointed to more than one Head Coach Position of these teams. This strategy is in place in order to provide BBI’s many talented and capable Performance Coaches the opportunity to lead a team matching their skills and capabilities.
  • An additional consideration for coach deployment across all the Junior Talent Confirmation teams (U12 – U18 Gold teams) is the consideration to avoid the selection of a coach to these teams who has an identified conflict of interest (i.e., parent or sibling, perception of a gained advantage from the appointment). Exceptions to this strategy may occur due to exceptional coaching talent as determined by the Coach Selection Panel, or on occasion of need.
