Brisbane Welcomes Miela Sowah to the Electract Women's NBL1 Team

Brisbane Basketball is excited to announce the signing of Miela Sowah (née Goodchild) to the Electract Women’s NBL1 Brisbane Capitals team for the 2025 season.

A proud Queensland junior, Miela returns home bringing with her a wealth of experience from the highest levels of competition both in Australia and abroad. Her impressive journey includes a WNBL championship with the Townsville Fire in 2018 as a development player, four standout seasons in the NCAA with the prestigious Duke Blue Devils, and more recently, back-to-back seasons in the WNBL with the Melbourne Boomers and current club Perth Lynx.

Miela’s game continues to go from strength to strength. In 2023, she was one of the most dominant scorers in the league, leading the NBL1 competition in scoring and being named to the NBL1 All-Star 5 — a testament to her skill, consistency, and impact on court.

She’s also shining on the international stage. As part of the Australian Gangurrus 3x3 team, Miela helped secure a third straight FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup title, defeating Japan in a thrilling final and further showcasing her ability to perform under pressure.

From Coach Caddie:

“I’m super excited to have Miela sign with us at Caps for 2025. Her career has been going from strength to strength, and she’s another fantastic addition to our group.
Miela led the league in scoring last season and earned a spot in the All-Star 5 — she’ll be a key piece for us in the upcoming season.
She’s having a phenomenal WNBL campaign with the Perth Lynx, and we’re excited for her to bring that form into our team.”

From GM Hamish Cain:

'I would like to acknowledge the Moraitis Family for the sponsorship of Miela. Their support has greatly assisted our ability to bring Miela to Caps. On behalf of the Capitals thank you! Without this support we simply wouldn’t be able to attract such great talent!"

A Key Addition for 2025

Miela’s versatility, leadership and elite scoring ability will be a massive boost to the Capitals as the team builds toward another strong NBL1 campaign. Her return to Queensland is not only a homecoming, but a statement of intent — the Capitals are all in for 2025.

We’re thrilled to see Miela back on Queensland soil and can’t wait to see her in blue and gold.
