U18 Representative Team Selection Camps - Registrations Open (2024)

Brisbane Capitals Representative Program is pleased to open registrations for male and female players born 2008 & 2009 interested in trailing for the 2024-25 Under 18 Representative Teams.

Brisbane Basketball Inc. will nominate teams of 10 players for GOLD, SILVER (and BRONZE teams as per Team Selection Policy) in the Boys and Girls competitions which includes both the SQJBC competition and State Championship tournament.

Brisbane Capitals representative teams compete in the highest level of junior and youth aged based basketball competition in Queensland. Including the South Queensland Junior Basketball Competition (SQJBC) and State Championships. Players must be available to commit to the full season which includes the SQJBC season and State Championships.

  • Team Selection Camp #1 (2x Sessions; including Performance Support Workshops): Sunday 2nd of June - 8:30am to 3:30pm @ Auchenflower Stadium
  • Team Selection Camp #2 (2x Sessions; including Athletic Testing & Performance Support Workshops): Sunday 9th of June - 8:30am to 3:30pm @ Auchenflower Stadium


REGISTRATION TO BOYS PRE-TRIAL EVENT - NOW OPEN** (refer Selection Process - Re-Structure & Player Categorisation below)

Under 18 – BOYS Teams (Players born 2008 & 2009) - REGISTER HERE

  • Pre-Trial Event (2x On Court Sessions) Saturday 18th of May - 3:30pm to 8:30pm @ Auchenflower Stadium
    • Male players who have NOT played state level representative competition (SQJBC or State Champs) in the past 12 months are required to attend the Pre-Trial Event if they seek selection to an U18 boys representative team.
    • Only Identified players from the Pre-Trial Event will be invited via email to attend the U18 Boys Team Selection Camp.
  • IMPORTANT: Only Invited Players are permitted to attend the U18 Boys Team Selection Camp (June 2nd & 9th).
    • Invited players includes:
      • All 2008 & 2009 players that played state level representative competition (SQJBC); and tournaments (SQJBC Grading or State Championships).
      • Identifed 2008 & 2009 players from the May 18th Pre-Trial Event.


U18 Boys Represetative Team Selection Process - Re-Structure (Information documents)

UNDER 18 TEAM SELECTION CAMP DETAILS

  • $55 trial fee (GST and online fee inclusive) for up to 3 trials. (includes Athletic Testing, Performance Support Workshops)
  • Online registration only
    • Note: Parents should complete the registration form and include the family’s primary email as a contact.
  • Be sure to read and complete all components of the registration process.
  • Missing a Trial Session: Players are required to attend a minimum of two of the allocated three trial sessions to be considered for selection.
    • If a player is not able to attend one or more of the trial sessions, but still seeks to be considered for selection, a Trial Exemption Form must be completed.
    • Players requiring an exemption due to missing a trial please scroll to the end of this page and click the link to request and exemption.
  • On conclusion of the trial process teams will be named and posted to the BBI website.
  • Selected players should prepare to commence team practices up-to-twice per week commencing the week following team announcements and continuing through to State Championships.
    • Under 18 Rep Teams practice primarily on an early week evening (Monday or Tuesday) and a Thursday Evening or Sunday Mornings (if required)
  • BBI reserves the right to refuse registration, or cancel a registration, of any player to any BBI or Capitals event for any reason from time-to-time.

Team Finalisation & Announcements: By, or before, the afternoon of Friday, June 28th
SQJBC Grading: Premier League & League 2 (August 31 or September 1); League 3 & League 4 (September 7 or 8)
SQJBC Season: SQJBC commences October 5 &/or 6 concluding end of Term 4.
State Championships: January 8 - 12, 2025 (Gold Coast)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA (Refer 4. Eligibility Criteria; Team Selection Policy).

In support of a transparent selection process in accordance with the objectives of the Brisbane Capitals Performance Program, BBI has set out specific eligibility criteria to be applied across all Brisbane Capitals Junior Representative Teams.

Players are required to meet BBI eligibility requirements as outlined in the Junior rules –

3.2 Prerequisite for Brisbane Basketball Junior Capitals Representation

3.2.1 Any player who wishes to represent the Brisbane Basketball Junior Capitals in the representative season that commences after the Championship Season MUST:

• be registered with BBI and a BBI Club and playing in the BBJBC competition

• play a minimum of 50% of eligible games in the correct BBJBC age group (Re: U18 Rep = U17, U19, GYL Winter Season)

3.2.2 The ONLY exemption to Rule 3.2.1, which will also be assessed by the BBI General Manager, is when a player moves from a Queensland location outside a radius of 100 kilometre from the BBI office at Auchenflower, from a state outside of Queensland or from a country outside of Australia. If an exemption is granted the player must immediately join a BBI Club.

BQ PLAYER TRANSFER
Players who last played for another Association MUST have a Full Transfer from their previous association Approved by BQ PRIOR to Attending the first Trial.

  • To avoid dust/water on our courts, please Do Not wear your basketball shoes from outside the stadium (change into them once in the stadium).

REPRESENTATIVE TRIAL EXEMPTION REQUESTS
Parents/Guardians, whose child is unable to attend one or all of the above trial events, but still wishes to be considered for selection, should complete a representative trial exemption request form (links below). For all exemption requests involving prolonged injury or illness please refer section 6C of the Team Selection Policy.
